Pinecone Reindeer

These cute little reindeer are so cute and amazingly, quick and mess-free. Since a pine cone makes the reindeer's body, they are also thrifty and green!

Create a Santa Display

We’re planning to make a whole set of these to pull Santa’s sleigh, which will of course be made from a cardboard box!

Start with a nature walk. Enjoy a cocoa while you craft with little ones. Finish with a lovely holiday display.

What You Need:

Each of the following items are needed to create a reindeer. If you’re making a whole set, you’ll need to multiply by nine. You'll need:

  • one pine cone
  • 3 brown pipe cleaners
  • 2 googly eyes or others suitable eyes
  • 1 red pompom, for Rudolph only

As an aside, because you know the kids will ask, the reindeer’s names are as follows: Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner, Blitzen (variously spelled Blixem and Blixen), Rudolph.

What You Do:

This is so simple, though little hands will need help to get the legs equal lengths so that the reindeer can stand.

  1. Wrap brown pipe cleaners around pine cone in the front and back to create legs. Tuck the pipe cleaner into the pine cone to hide it.
  2. Do the same thing, leaving the ends up instead of down, to create antlers.
  3. Glue eyes
  4. Glue Nose
